  41. I am looking for a ftp mail server which might have the ax.25 source code
  42. and/or executables for the Linux clone for unix.  I am working on getting a
  43. public access linux station available for the chicagoland area, and the ax.25
  44. protocol for linux would be very handy.  I know it exists, but my only internet
  45. access is through a service which does not yet provide ftp.    If any of you
  46. reading this happends to have the code, but not know of such a ftp mail site, I
  47. would appreciate Email, so we can work out how I re-imberse you for a copy!!!

  86. You can try telnetting into 44.16.0.61. That's the JPL Internet link in
  87. Pasadena. They might still have the direct conference link which is a
  88. 3600 port number, so just add 3600 at the end of the telnet address. As
  89. far as I know, there is no password required. Good luck.

  106.     I am looking for an ibm xt version of ka9q nos.  I have ftped
  107. the ucsd.edu directory /hamradio/packet/tcpip and downloaded the file
  108. FAQ-1292 and it has alot of good info but not alot on  the NOS files in
  109. that directory. Does anyone have a discription of the files in 
  110. /hamradio/packet/tcpip? 
  111.     In addition, there is a nos.exe file in that directory.  Is that 
  112. compiled for an xt?
  113.  
  114.     Finally, can anyone point me to systems other than ucsd.edu 
  115. that contain tcpip code and info.

  199. TAPR Special Interest Groups

  201. At its March board meeting, TAPR created three Special Interest 
  202. Groups (SIG) to help exchange information among packet radio 
  203. users.  These are devoted to BBS issues (BBS SIG), to information 
  204. about building, maintaining, and extending packet radio networks 
  205. (NET SIG), and to FCC Regulatory Issues (FCC SIG).  All amateurs, 
  206. TAPR members or not, are welcome to all SIG meetings.  The SIG 
  207. meetings will occur at the Radisson Inn, in the Premier Room 
  208. Saturday and Sunday evenings.

  211. TAPR National BBS SIG Meeting

  213. The BBS SIG held its first meeting on Saturday evening, March 5,
  214. 1994, in conjunction with the TAPR annual meeting.  This meeting 
  215. will be the second of three scheduled this year.

  217. The BBS SIG is currently considering these issues:
  218.      o hierarchical addressing
  219.      o education of users to get the most from the local
  220.         bulletin boards
  221.      o education of sysops to get the most from their
  222.         software
  223.      o establishing a library of case studies so we're all
  224.         not constantly 'reinventing the wheel' when we
  225.         set up or upgrade a BBS
  226.      o establishing a list of standard 'TO' and '@' fields
  227.  
  228. The Friday evening session will discuss these and look at what 
  229. other issues the BBS SIG should begin to exam.  Please come join 
  230. this meeting of the minds.

  280. I'm no Motorola expert, but i thought all the syntors where
  281. synthesized. (otherwise, wouldn't they have called them
  282. Crytors?:) The plain vanilla Syntor, is available in several
  283. different models for high band, low band, UHF, and 800. There are
  284. probably more. I've used both VHF and UHF models successfully on
  285. the ham bands, with no conversion other than reprogramming and
  286. retuning. (be a little careful, for each band, there are several
  287. different ranges of synthesizers, not all the ranges will work in
  288. the ham bands) 
  289.  
  290. As for setting up the prom information on the radio, it's pretty
  291. simple, once you figure out all the pin-shift stuff, and
  292. frequency data for the synthesizer dividers. I'll bet the info is
  293. motorola proprietary, so there is no way I can give you any of
  294. the data or prom information, but any dealer should be able to
  295. get 90% of the data correct from the factory programer. The pin-
  296. shifts on the factory programer will probably be incorrect for
  297. amateur use, but you can fix those manually. (providing you have
  298. a way to edit the prom data)
  299.  
  300. I recently picked up a low band syntor X. Reverse engineering the
  301. programming codes on that radio is a tad more tricky. It has MANY
  302. more features than the plain syntor. All the PL and DPL codes are
  303. programmable, as are a timeout timer, pin-shifts, priority and
  304. non-priority scan lists, noise blanker, and squelch modes. It's a
  305. nice radio and covers 10 meters thru 6 meters!  I'm using mine
  306. for 29.6Mhz, state police and fire scanning, and 6 meters, all
  307. without doing any hardware conversion! About all i have to do is
  308. change the antenna on the car when i switch from 6 to 10.
  309.  
  310. Sorry i can't supply you with detailed data for setting up the
  311. radio, but if you just need some info on the pin shifts or
  312. synthesizer ranges, i may be able to help you out. FYI the pin
  313. shift info and SOME of the programing information is available in
  314. the Motorola service manual. Again, the internal specifics of the
  315. prom data is probably owned by Motorola, so check with a dealer
  316. if you don't have a GOOD logic analyzer and a lot of patience !
  317. Maybe in another 10 years or so, the prom information will be
  318. public domain! (or at least Motorola won't care if it is handed
  319. around)
